On October 1st, Salford City Council celebrated one of its biggest ever road improvement schemes as part of the Bee Network.
The Trafford Road ‘Family Fun Day’ commemorated the recent infrastructure upgrades on Trafford Road which now provides a safe commute for all users.
Trafford Road has become one of the busiest roads in Salford and the recent infrastructure upgrades are set to improve its capacity to handle road traffic as well as providing better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Extra pedestrian and cycle friendly crossings have been introduced with all crossings along the road now controlled by signals to make it easier for people to travel on foot and on bike.
The whole length of the road has also been resurfaced with a new ‘red route’ clearway to keep traffic flowing – resulting in drivers who park on footpaths being given a fixed penalty notice.
Salford City Council Mayor Paul Dennett celebrated the scheme at Ordsall Park and said: “The Trafford road improvement scheme has been one of Salford’s biggest ever road improvement schemes.
“Every junction crossing and bus stop along Salford’s two-mile stretch of Trafford road has been improved and upgraded to ease the traffic flow but more importantly, to make it safer for everybody.
“On top of this, nearly four kilometres of newly segregated cycle lanes have been added.
“This is all a part of the Bee Network programme, which aims to encourage people to cycle, walk, and more importantly, use public transport.”
Transport Councillor, Mike McCusker said: “Salford City Council is fully committed to playing our role in helping achieve national Net Zero goals and we are immensely proud to announce the latest addition to our continuously expanding Bee Network.”
The event featured a live performance from artists such as At Home with Lilac, Yemi Bolatiwa and the local teen band ‘The Height’.
