CCTV: Man suspected of raping Manchester partygoer after leaving city centre nightclub with her

By Matthew Ord

A CCTV image of a man suspected of raping a woman after she left a Manchester city centre nightclub with him has been released.

The incident took place at around 2.30am on Sunday February 10 after the 24-year-old victim had left Poptastic night club with a man.

They walked along Bloom Street and as they met the junction with Harter Street she was raped.

They both then returned to the nightclub and went inside, before later the victim reported the incident to the police.

The suspect is described as being of mixed race, in his mid 20s or early 30s, of a slim build and over 6ft tall. He had a shaven head, was clean shaven and wore a white t-shirt that had a large design on the front and dark blue jeans.

Detective Constable Vicky Wade from the Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “The victim had met a man at the club and left with him before she was subjected to this horrific crime.  She is obviously still shaken after her ordeal.

“The image we have obtained from the club CCTV is very clear and we believe someone must know who this person is.  If you do, I would ask you to contact police.”

Detective Constable Wade also reassured members of the public that ‘incidents of this type are extremely rare’.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 1995 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
