Homophobic vandals target Wigan woman’s home for second time with abusive graffiti in ‘hate crime’

By Tim Hyde

Homophobic graffiti vandals targeted a Wigan woman’s home with abusive messages this week for a second time – in what is being treated as a ‘hate crime’ by police.

Offenders covered the windows on the front door of the home and smeared homophobic words on the living room windows using a paint brush.

The attack occurred between 3am and 8.30am on Monday at the victim’s home on Rivington Avenue in Golborne.

Police Constable Lawrence McDonald based at Leigh Police Station said: “The victim is obviously upset to wake up and find her home has been damaged.

“Some of the graffiti was homophobic and we are treating this as a hate crime.”

The homeowner was victim to a similar attack in June this year.

Police Constable McDonald is urging anyone with information to come forward.
