A generous off-duty nurse who gave crucial medical assistance to a man whose skull was fractured from a single punch in an unprovoked Stalybridge attack is being asked to come forward.
The 27-year-old victim was out with his partner and friends drinking at Szoda Bar, Market Street on August 26, Bank Holiday weekend.
When outside the bar on his own he was attacked and knocked unconscious by a single blow to the head.
Luckily for him, an unknown woman, believed to be an off-duty-nurse, rushed to his side and gave vital medical assistance until an ambulance arrived.
The man was then rushed to hospital for treatment to a fractured skull.
Detective Constable David Montgomery said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack and a prime example of the devastating consequences that a single punch can have.
“If anyone witnessed the incident or saw the offender/s before or after it happened, please get in touch with us and tell us what you saw.
“I am also appealing for the woman that kindly provided medical assistance to the victim until the ambulance arrived to get in touch with us, as she may have information that is vital to our investigation.”
