A man who was ‘stabbed with such ferocity his windpipe was cut’ in the middle of Piccadilly Gardens is lucky to be alive, say police.
Officers were called to Manchester city centre around 10.20pm on Monday November 24, after a 40-year-old man was stabbed to the neck and stomach in a ‘ferocious’ attack.
The victims wounds were so severe police say it is fortunate they are not investigating his murder.
Detective Inspector Liam Boden said: “The man was stabbed with such ferocity that his windpipe was cut and it is fortunate we are not investigating this as a murder.
“While we are continuing to explore all avenues in respect of a possible motive what I would say is that this was not a random attack and the person injured was deliberately targeted.”
The offender is described as male, black, between 16 and 21 years old, with scars on his face.
DI Boden added: “If anyone can help shed light on why that may have been I would urge them to call us.”
“Additionally, if anyone witnessed the incident and is yet to speak to us or has information about the offender please get in touch.”
