The father of murdered policewoman Nicola Hughes will tee off at Dukinfield Golf Club on Friday to raise funds for three charities which support victims of crime across the UK.
PC Hughes was killed on September 18 after being lured into a gun and grenade attack by one-eyed murderer Dale Cregan.
The event will be the launch of Nicola Hughes Memorial Golf Day, as her father Bryn Hughes continues his fundraising for charities Victim Support, COPS – Care of Police Survivors and The North West Police Benevolent Society.
The golfing event, which starts at 10.30am, is one of many initiatives by family, friends and colleagues and has gathered much support with Dukinfield Golf Club kindly donating the use of the course for the day.
Golfers will enjoy a round of golf on the 18-hole course offering a fair but challenging test for experienced and novice golfers followed by a dinner and prize giving.
Bryn said “Nicola was proud to serve her community and country as a Police Officer and ultimately sacrificed her life while serving the Greater Manchester Police Service. I was and still am immensely proud of Nicola for all her achievements throughout her childhood and her life.
“I have often said that I never want Nicola to be forgotten for what she did and how she lived, therefore events such as this will ensure that Nicola’s memory will continue to live on for many years to come.”
Bryn has vowed to continue his daughter’s memory and plans to compete in a gruelling 26-mile North Pole marathon in April 2014.
