A pensioner was hospitalised for five days following an ‘unprovoked and savage’ attack by a dog owner and his pet in a Manchester park last month.
The 75-year-old victim had gone to Swinton Grove Park on Plymouth Grove, Longsight, at 6am to practise Thai Chi exercises when he was confronted by a man walking his Jack Russell-type dog.
The elderly man was bitten on the foot by the dog and, in an attempt to escape the attack, fell to the ground.
As he tried to get back to his feet he was approached by the dog’s owner who began punching and kicking him.
Detective Constable Tony Smith said: “This was a totally unprovoked and savage attack on an elderly member of our community who was simply out doing his exercises.”
“We can find no real motive for why this man would launch into such a vicious attack.
“Clearly he is violent and had no qualms about using his fists, and his dog, to hurt people.”
After the horrific attack the offender left the victim who managed to get home where neighbours called for an ambulance and the police.
No arrests have been made and police are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
The incident happened on June 9 at approximately 6am and the offender is described as being white, in his late 40’s, 5ft 9in tall, of a medium build, and with grey hair.
He had a long pointy-shaped face and high cheekbones.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
