The heart-broken family of a pensioner killed in a crash with a lorry on East Lancs Road on Wednesday have paid tribute to him.
Paul Garratt, 75, was a passenger in a red Citroen Picasso that collided with a lorry on the westbound side of the A580 between Asherleigh Way and Lane Head at about 4pm.
He was initially air lifted to hospital from the scene with serious leg injuries but tragically died just a few hours later.
Paul’s family said: “Paul was a much loved family man who will be missed by his wife, Ann, son Edward and daughter in law Wendy and his three grandchildren and all his family and friends.”
The driver of the Picasso, a 58-year-old man, and the driver of the HGV, a 46-year-old man, were both arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following the collision.
Police are still questioning the HGV driver in custody, however the driver of the Picasso has been released on police bail until later this month.
