An Altrincham family are ‘distraught’ and may have to cancel a holiday after burglars broke into their home and stole £33,000 worth of valuables and eight passports.
An unknown number of offenders broke into the house on Patridge Avenue, Baguley, on Monday February 2, and proceeded to tear the house apart looking for valuables, stealing a large amount of cash, jewellery and electronic equipment.
The family had already been subjected to an attempted burglary late last year, when the offenders tried to enter the house via a set of ladders but were disturbed before they could gain entry.
Detective Constable Catherine Campbell said: “The family are understandably distraught by this theft. Not only have they lost treasured family heirlooms but also their passports meaning they may have to cancel their family holiday.
“We unfortunately do not have any descriptions of the person or people responsible, but are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Monday afternoon to contact police as a matter of urgency.”
The thieves stole two digital cameras, four laptops, five watches, Asian jewellery worth almost £15,000 and more than £6,500 of cash.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 6031 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
