The manager of an RSPCA charity shop has spoken of her heartbreak after discovering her Northern Quarter shop had been broken into over Christmas.
Stephanie Thornton, manager of the Oak Street store, described the scene as ‘horrifying’ when she discovered the damage on Monday December 30.
Upon arriving for work on Monday she found the glass door was smashed through and the till and other items missing.
“They were quite clever they pulled the shutters down and smashed through the front door,” she told MM.
“The damage was extensive, it was horrifying.”
Stephanie credited the police for their help and support, who worked closely with her after the break-in.
The store has not had the best of luck since it moved beginning with a doggy donation box being swiped on Valentines Day and their beloved store dog sadly passing away.
“It has upset everyone,” she added.
“We have not had the best of luck since we moved into the Northern Quarter but our regular customers have been so supportive and were shocked when they heard the news.
“It was really personal. It’s like getting your house broken into.”
The shop, which settled in its new location in February, boasts rails of colour co-ordinated vintage and designer goodies and Stephanie and her husband sourced and upcycled the mid-century dressers and display cabinets that are now adorned with vintage tea sets, jewellery and books.
