US singer Olivia Rodrigo speaks out after Co-op Live gigs cancelled

Singer Olivia Rodrigo today apologised to fans after her two gigs this weekend at the jinxed Co-op arena were postponed.

The 21-year-old star said she was ‘sooooo disappointed’ and ‘so bummed’ not to be taking the stage at Manchester’s £350 million venue.

Her comments come hours after last night’s show featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s show was cancelled yesterday as fans queued to get in.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Rodrigo wrote: ‘I’ve been having such a great time in Europe so far and I’m sooooo disappointed that we’re unable to perform in Manchester due to on-going venue-related technical issues.

‘We’re doing our best to schedule the show. You can hold onto your tickets for further info or request a refund at your point of purchase. More info will be sent directly to ticket holders.

‘I’m so bummed and I really hope to see you all soon.’

Co-op Live bosses said they were forced to cancel Wednesday night’s show after a piece of ventilation equipment ‘separated from the ductwork’. They blamed a ‘factory defect’ related to the piece of kit.

The chaos on Wednesday evening was the third postponement of the opening night in the past few weeks.

Teams of workers were back on site today patching up the building next to the Etihad stadium.
