A serial rapist who repeatedly harassed a Middleton woman, subjecting her to a series of ‘terrifying attacks’ has been jailed for 11 years.
The Manchester sexual predator was jailed yesterday at Minshull Street Crown Court for 11 years after admitting to having repeatedly raped and threatened the same woman.
Jonathan Cleary, 26, of no fixed address pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of harassment at earlier hearings and was sentenced yesterday, Wednesday April 1.
The abuse began in 2012 when Cleary and his victim were out at a party in Middleton, when upon returning to the victim’s home he raped her.
In June of the following year, he then raped the same woman again at the same address in Middleton in what has been described by police this morning as a ‘terrifying attack’.
In January of 2014 he began to send her abusive messages via Facebook and social media, eventually threatening her with serious physical violence.
Distressed and fearing for her safety she contacted the police.
Detective Constable Rachel Wood said: “The victim was completely terrified of Cleary who took advantage of her fear by raping her.
“He subjected her to terrifying attacks but thanks to her bravery at coming forward and supporting a prosecution, justice has been served.
“The sentencing proves that no matter how long a crime ago a crime was committed, we will investigate each case.
“It also shows the determination of officers to ensure that those responsible for such horrific attacks are put behind bars.”
