There may only be a few months left until the festive season gets into full swing but Manchester booze lovers are being urged to go dry tomorrow…and it is all for a good cause.
The event organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, will aim to raise cash as people swear off alcohol for friends and family to sponsor them.
The campaign is backed by indie rock band, Bombay Bicycle Club, who are taking the month off the booze. Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Suren de Saram and Ed Nash – have so far raised £400 thanks to kind donations from fans, friends and family.
So far more than 19,700 are signed up for the campaign with £217,100 already being raised.
Asked about being sober for a month, the band replied: “We’re feeling like no one believes in us.”
Dedicated fans are encouraging the band members to stay sober by sponsoring them and leaving supportive messages on their ‘Go Sober’ sponsorship page.
They are aiming to raise a minimum of £500 and hope to inspire more people to get involved.
Macmillan Cancer Support have partnered with the Australian fundraising campaign, Dry July, to launch Go Sober for October.
Cancer Research UK successfully launched the Dryathlon which ran in January, and now it’s Macmillan’s turn to get people involved in raising money for the great cause.
