WATCH: Manchester UKIP march met by counter-protesters and heavy police presence

Counter-protesters clashed with police in Manchester city centre after a chaotic UKIP march.

Led by Manchester Stand Up To Racism, the counter-protestors were out in large numbers to try and stop a UKIP “mass deportations” march on Saturday February 22.

The march started at St. Peter’s square heading down Portland Street and into Piccadilly Gardens causing delays for buses and trams.

The former party of Nigel Farage, is now led by Nick Tenconi. Self described as a “defender of Christianity and conservative values,” Tenconi is most known for leading protests against Drag Queen story times in London.

He is also chief operations officer of Turning Point UK – a British offshoot of an American right-wing pressure group.

One counter protester said: “Britain is not built on racism. I don’t believe we’ve gone back in time where we’re blaming immigrants, refugees, brown and black people, trans and people who are gay, for the failings of the UK government.”
