VIDEO: Wednesday of discontent sees protestors take to the streets in UK’s biggest day of strike action in over a decade

Today the UK saw the biggest day of industrial action in more than a decade with half a million teachers, rail-workers, civil servants and lecturers striking.

The strike is one of several days where workers in key sectors have walked out to demand wage rises and improvements to working conditions.

In Manchester, union members gathered together in a large demonstration of nearly two thousand people marching down Deansgate.

MM spoke to organisers, protestors and members of the public about their feelings on the strikes and their hopes for the future.

The government has recently made attempts to curb protests by allowing police more leeway in cancelling protests which cause ‘serious disruption’ but campaigners argue this broader definition infringes on people’s right to protest.

Next week NHS workers who are members of GMB and Unite will go on strike on Monday and Tuesday while at least one union will be on strike in the UK for the rest of the month.
