As Greater Manchester basks in glorious sunshine you may be tempted to pop down to the beer garden and enjoy a sneaky pint or two.
But for those who want to embrace the great outdoors, rather than a stonking hangover the following morning, check out MM’s top five places to enjoy a beautiful summer day.
5. Treasure Trails
Treasure Trails Lancashire has a number of, well, treasure trails throughout Manchester each with its own suitably clichéd case based on a murder, spy mission or a treasure hunt.
Treasure hunters follow clues throughout the city that help them to work out the answer to the puzzle, with the added incentive of a cash prize to spur them on if they get lost in the Northern Quarter.
The three trails which cover Spinningfields, Castlefield and the Medieval Quarter, all last less than two hours and have plenty of places to take a break along the way, from indie art cafes to high street favourites.

Though each of the three trails focus on different aspects of the city all take their inspiration from Manchester’s rich historic past, drawing from its Roman origins all the way through to its transformation during the Industrial Revolution.

4. Route 66 Drive-in Cinema

The only modern thing about this cinema experience is the film selection which includes lots of new releases and blockbuster smashes.

1. Wild swimming at Hatchmere Lake
Those looking for a South of France-inspired getaway with a hint of adventure then Hatchmere Lake is the perfect place to sit back, relax… and swim with the fish.
The warm, relatively shallow natural lake bordered by a quaint little beach is the perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of Manchester.
Although the lake lies around 30 miles from the centre of Manchester, it’s well worth the drive as the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the lake is something that cannot be found on your front door.

Even if you dare not brave the chilly waters, Hatchmere Lake is a prime picnic spot and also a great location for fishing, as long as you stay away from the swimmers!
There is a bike and hiking path around the lake, as well as a little country pub in which to warm up after a refreshing swim.
