A leading fitness coach is in a bid to get Manchester in shape following the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Sarah Maxwell, a celebrity fitness coach who has worked with the likes of Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke, will be opening the Reebok ‘FitHub’ in Debenhams on Market Street this Saturday July 26 to honour the 12th anniversary of the games being in Manchester.
The centre will offer free fitness advice from Sarah as well as complimentary massages and the chance to win Reebok apparel.
She claims there will be activities for everybody within the community and it is by no means just for ‘the elite.’
She told MM: “People will have to undergo different levels of intensity to accommodate to their busy lives.”
The Commonwealth Games and other such events can bring people together and create a wonderful atmosphere in cities and Sarah believes that investing money in sport can help bring people together and overcome problems within communities.
“During the Commonwealth Games the whole community has a chance to get involved and celebrate its success and I find people are inspired and buoyed by the games,” she said.
“It makes a huge difference to people’s lives, especially when people get a chance to see and meet their heroes it really inspires them.”
She also revealed that in her experience the Commonwealth Games affects gym and sports club memberships.
“Gym memberships have definitely gone up over the last 12 years since the last Commonwealth Games, but they inspire people to get outside at places like sports clubs.
“People move away from the gym and venture outside as community events are often free.”
Sarah also believes that the games are extremely important in regenerating cities and big events can bring economic prosperity.
This has already been seen with events like the World Cup in Brazil, the Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2012 Olympics in east London.
“In terms of regeneration, the last Commonwealth Games boosted Manchester’s reputation as a global city and enhanced economic development,” said Sarah.
“That then continued after the games to show Manchester as a cultural city and I think sometimes all cities need is events like these to draw attention to them.”
Sarah will be available from 11am – 5pm offering the public free fitness advice and free massages will be available at the Reebok’s FitBar, located on Debenhams Ground Floor.
Shoppers will also have the opportunity to win trainers and can sign up to the Reebok Fit Club where they’ll receive 10% off Reebok clothing on the day.
