Piccadilly Pulse: As Manchester enjoys temperatures in the 30s, has the heatwave got too much for you?

By Daisy Yates

Manchester is experiencing one of the longest heat waves since 2006 with temperatures expected to peak at 28°C over the weekend.

A level three warning has been issued urging people to take precautions including staying out of the sun between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

So if you plan to invite family and friends over for a BBQ this weekend it may well be worth investing in sunscreen and a hat.

It might be worth investing in some sun-screen and inviting friends and family around for a BBQ this weekend.

And while the weather is undoubtedly beautiful is it proving too much for some Manchester residents? We took to the streets of Manchester to ask:

Has the heat wave got too much for you?

The glorious weather seemed to split opinion fairly evenly with many Mancunians revelling in the hot weather while it lasts while other said they couldn’t wait to get back to normal.

Clearly we’re a tricky bunch to please, despite constant complaints about the cold and wet weather we’re still not satisfied when the sun finally makes an appearance.

Marie, 23, charity fundraiser, Withington, said: “I’ve got to work out here and as a result it’s too hot for too long. I like the tan though.

Mrs Jones, 40, reaching assistant, Leigh:”It’s hot and a bit sticky, but it makes a nice change though!”

Dave, 63, retired, Prestwich, said:It’s wonderful. We’re out every single day, it’s great.

Sue, retail management worker, Salford, said:It’s a bit warm but I’m not complaining. It’s not so fun being sat in the office but when you’re outside it’s glorious.”

Oscar, 18, student, Fallowfield, said: I quite like hot weather so it’s nice. You have to make sure you drink a lot of water but if you do that it’s great.”

Alan, 68, retired, Salford, said: “I lived in South Africa for 45 years so now it’s like a home away from home.”

Julie, 46, cultural producer, Old Trafford, said:The office is 86 degrees which is really horrible, but I am enjoying being out in the garden in the evenings.”
