Gael Clichy as Ali G and Tracy Barlow as Cher… Meet Manchester’s costumier to the stars

By Colin Rhodes & Tom Belger

As Halloween creeps closer Manchester revellers will be beginning the hunt to find the most wacky and gruesome costumes around.

Those looking in the city centre need look no further as costumier to the stars Steve Jackson, owner of All Things Fancy Dress, has already racked up and impressive number of famous and very satisified customers.

He told MM that links to Manchester City players and Coronation Street stars has reignited his passion for fancy dress fashion and given him his ‘mojo’ back.

“It was a pleasure supplying the Manchester City side for their alphabet-themed Christmas party last year.

“We sorted out Gael Clichy for his Ali G costume and also helped out Pablo Zabaleta and Stefan Savic.

“They were all great guys and enthusiastic about committing to their fancy dress outfits.”

Mr Jackson also revealed he supplied the costumes for Coronation Street’s Diamond Jubilee party and said many still come back to visit.

He added: “Kate Ford, who plays Tracy Barlow, popped in the other week – she regularly uses the store after we supplied her Cher outfit for last year’s event.”

Mr Jackson also supplied Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) with a John Lennon outfit and Jimmi Harkishin (Dev Alahan) with an Adam Ant costume.

The store recently moved to its current location after being based on Great Ducie Street, a move that Mr Jackson believes has encouraged business and brought a wider variety of people to his store.

He explained: “We get people from the Far East for example who have never seen fancy dress before and who pass the shop and can’t wait to come in and look at the costumes. They can’t get enough of it!”

In a week where fancy dress sold by retail giants Tesco, Asda and Amazon has hit the headlines Mr Jackson said that nothing is strange anymore in the world of fancy dress.

He added: “People come in for all sorts so you just have to not be shocked anymore.”
