New book club combines reading with cocktails

A new book club is starting in Manchester which combines reading… with cocktails.

The Read Room describes itself as an “elevated literary experience” which redefines the traditional book club.

Aseries of monthly events will begin on Monday April 22 in the Side Street bar, inside St John’s Manchester, with a live reading and an author introduction before guests are welcomed into the main bar for drinks, music, and discussion.

Co-founder Kya Buller said: “The Read Room was created to offer something new – a space that’s both sophisticated and inclusive.

“We are passionate about creating a community where literature meets the energy of city nightlife.”

Attendees will each receive a signed copy of the month’s featured book as well as a curated goodie bag.

The club aims to establish a regular and recognisable cultural gathering that fosters community and reimagines the way literature is experienced in urban settings.

In a time which is digitally overwhelming, The Read Room will provide an open and accessible opportunity to connect and mingle in a relaxed yet sophisticated setting.

Each event will be held on a weekday evening with a new venue and theme announced monthly.

Shiko Group Brand marketing manager Katie Richardson said The Read Room will align perfectly with Side Street’s stylish, thought provoking, and socially vibrant atmosphere.

She said: “This series reflects our commitment to bringing fresh, meaningful cultural experiences to Manchester’s landscape.”

Located on the ground floor of the ABC Buildings, Side Street is a redeveloped mid-century venue which is home to a number of food, drink, leisure, and retail brands.
