Anticipation is boiling over as BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals announced today that applications will soon be closing – giving Manchester chefs their last chance to apply.
The show will return for its seventh series later this year and will see professional chefs from around the country pushed to their culinary limits.
Although no official closing date has been revealed, the BBC are urging any budding last-minute chefs to submit their applications before it’s too late.
The aspiring cooks of Manchester have a hard act to follow after Adam Leavy, chef at Abode Manchester, made the semi-finals in the show last December.
Adam, 28, was in the final eight when he exited the show: “I never really expected to get on the show in the first place so it was still sort of a surprise to me to be cooking for Michel and Monica (Roux Jr and Galetti, Masterchef judges).”
“I’d gone from watching the show for the last four or five years to actually being on the show. it was like a dream/nightmare!”
Leavy raised eyebrows with his brightly-coloured sleeve tattoos, bringing a punk style to the Masterchef kitchen.
“I think there’s definitely a hint of ‘look at me you’ve never seen anything like this before but I hope you like it,’” he admitted.
“I wouldn’t like to say a sense of anarchy makes its way into my food but a hint of subversion is in there, trying to create something new, raising eyebrows.”
Last year Steven Edwards, head chef at the Camellia Restaurant in West Sussex, was crowned champion of the competition.
During his final challenge, judge Galetti said: “Steven showed he deserves to be here, he’s cooked faultlessly. It was simplicity done to perfection.”
So if you think you have what it takes, don your white hat and do the people of Manchester proud.
