A popular Manchester bar has opened a tipi in the Castlefield area to continue service while their premises undergo a three month long refurbishment.
Dukes 92 has opened the 150 person capacity ‘hygge’ themed tipi which will mean that while the original Dukes bar is undergoing a one million pound refurbishment customers will be able to get cosy under the canvas.
Pet pooches are also allowed on the site, meaning that not only will visitors be able to enjoy the rustic charm of the tipi, but they can be kept company by their four-legged friends as well.
James Ramsbottom, Managing Director of Elle R Leisure who owns Dukes 92, said: “Snuggled up on a cold night, wearing a woolly jumper, drinking a mug of mulled wine with a dog at your feet in the warm glow of candlelight is very hygge.
“While we undertake a three month refurbishment of the bar, we didn’t want to leave our regulars out in the cold.
“We look forward to welcoming people back in the spring and we hope everyone enjoys the next 25 years eating and drinking in this much-loved Manchester institution.”
The idea behind the pop-up bar is to accommodate customers while Dukes 92 is undergoing the three month change, which marks the bar’s 25th Anniversary.
Hygge is a Danish word pronounced hoo-gah which can be summed up as the art of cosiness and enjoying life’s simple pleasures in the company of others.
It’s embedded into their culture and is woven into the way people in Denmark live their lives.
Situated by the canal on Castle Street it will be serving pizzas from a wood burning oven, together with a range of alcohol including Denmark’s ever-popular Carlsberg lager.
The bar will be open every day from noon until 11pm, with entertainment regularly in place and live acoustic music every Sunday.
Of course, not forgetting the furry friends, the bar will supply water bowls and treats for their canine customers.
Work to the originally bar building will include the introduction of a private dining room and an outside terrace.
