Old stomping ground: Dan Whitehouse plans Manchester acoustic set in city he used to busk

By Arandeep Dhillon

Coming back to the city where he would busk as a teen, Dan Whitehouse is headlining his first gig in Manchester next week.

The singer-songwriter, 34, will be performing a number of tracks of his second album – Reaching For A State Of Mind – which is set to be released on Monday October 7, just three days before he performs at The Castle Hotel on Oldham Street.

The launch gig for the new album took place in Birmingham, where he is currently based, last night where Dan was ‘honoured’ to join the stage with the theatrical Duke Special.

Though the performance 11 days later will be the first time Dan has headlined in Manchester, he proclaims influences from some of the city’s biggest names.

“Manchester has been a big influence, I was a huge Oasis fan in my teenage years and have shared a lyric from The Smiths song There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”, he said.

The Manchester performance, supported by Anja McCloskey and Shauna Mackin, is part of his hectic schedule that will see him perform at ten different venues across the country in October.

Dan said: “The audience can be in for a sort of acoustic night and be able to get up close and personal with the story.”

The West Midlands man is excited to be coming back to the place he used to visit as a youngster.

“I used to catch the National Express coach with my guitar and come to Manchester. There was a great vibe,” he added.

The much in-demand artist has shared stages with chart-topper Maria McKee, blues guitar legend Peter Green and the Grammy-winning World Party.

The new album shows a broader style from the artist with a more expansive, full bodied sound packed with optimism and self-doubt as it reflects on those attempting to find their place in the world.

The event at the Castle Hotel will begin at 7.30pm on October 10 with adult tickets on sale for £8 with concession tickets priced at £3.
