Justin Moorhouse, famed for played Young Kenny in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, has warned drunken hecklers to stay at home, as he prepares to headline Chorlton Irish club this Friday.
Moorhouse will be using his wicked wit to bombard the audience with a string of sharp and well written jokes that are guaranteed to have the crowd in stitches.
Update: A secret guest will be joining Justin alongside the billed line-up of Danny McLoughlin, Vikki Stone and Boothby Graffoe. The mystery star will be testing his /her new material.
The comic is mostly renowned for playing Young Kenny in the hugely successful, award-winning Phoenix Nights, written and starring Peter Kay.
Justin also featured in the Phoenix Nights spin-off, Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere and the Ken Loach film, Looking for Eric.
Moorhouse joins a whole host of comedic talents to come from Manchester, ranging from Jason Manford to Chris Addison, not forgetting Steve Coogan and Peter Kay.
“Manchester’s comedy circuit has always been very strong, it always has been, I think from open spot circuit to the big clubs it’s always busy and creative,” Justin told MM.
“Hecklers are all different. A good heckle has to be appreciated and acknowledged, drunken rude idiots need to stay at home.
“In the future I hope to be happy and doing stand-up then that’ll be just fine.”
Justin has come a long way since winning the City Life Comedian of The Year Award in October 2000, past winners of the prestigious award have included Peter Kay and Chris Addison.
Though he does enjoy the stand-up circuit, the Mancunian comic’s heart lies in TV and Film.
“I really enjoy both really, stand up is what I am. Acting though is a chance to collaborate and works as a team as opposed to be being the lone wolf,” he said.
Justin’s larger than life personality and cheeky northern charm have allowed him remain a mainstay on the live comedy circuit.
Justin regularly plays at The Comedy Store in both London and Manchester but his favourite stomping ground is at the Lowry.
The father-of-two told MM: “Manchester crowds are usually up for it, but they are not always easiest and they seem to appreciate quality – and are very supportive.”
On Friday Justin will be taking to the stage at one of his favourite venues that he has become a familiar face at.
“It is a great venue, great set up for our comedy nights as the bar closes when show on, which helps a lot,” he told MM.
“Also the staff and owners are really positive about making the nights a success. It’s got a great team feel.”
