Salford Music Festival Organisers are hoping to beat off stiff competition at this year’s National UK Festival Awards.
The nominations are the first in the festivals history which is an impressive triumph considering it only began in 2010.
The three day festival received a nomination for the Best Metropolitan Festival, which focuses on events that do not require camping and swap the outdoors for the comfort of the indoors – essentially a concrete jungle festival.
In addition, the festival is also nominated for The Grass Roots Festival Award which honours the time and labour put into bringing an independent festival to life by organisers whilst still continuing to support local communities and emerging music.
Organiser of the festival Ed Blaney said: “I think it is great SMF have been nominated for this year’s UK Festival Awards as it clearly shows after five years of real hard work we are making all the right noises.
“It all comes together with a real community spirit, 99% of all the gigs are free to the public, we don’t want to make money; we only want the many brilliant bands that play to get the most out of it.
“The festival is all about promoting new artists, the underdogs, the un-heard ofs.”
Ed went on to say how the awards are the first they have ever received and hopefully a sign of many more to come in the future.
“We are all really buzzing and hopeful of winning at least one of the awards. If we do, then we will dedicate it to all the many fantastic bands, acts and artists that have played SMF since 2010.
“It is all great news for the city of Salford, new music artists and venues.”
The awards ceremony will be held in London on December 1 at the Roundhouse.
