It’s the obsession which has taken over the internet, but what precisely is it?
People have taken to TikTok with a new food craze – chewable sweets filled with flavoured syrups.
The sweets are coated in a wax layer, which is designed to be chewed and disposed of, once the liquid has been sucked out.
Much like chewing gum, the wax layer is made to a food safe, non-toxic standard, according to online sweet store, Arcade Snacks.

On TikTok, viewers can see influencers munching on different shapes and sizes of wax candy, but the original sweet is thought to have come from The American Candy Company.
The original wax candies were in the shape of small bottles, entitled “Nik-L-Nips.”
The name combines the original cost of a “Nickel” and “nip” which was the standard way of opening the wax bottles in the mid-20th century, according to online sweet shop, Bulk Candy Store.
The comments on many of the TikTok videos come from users questioning the point of chewing sweets which are partially inedible.
Popular wax candy brand, Ooodles Wax Candy, charge up to £95.70 for four to five ‘large wax candies’ – without the added cost of shipping accounted for.

The wax candies range in shape from castles, to butterflies and lobsters.
The controversial sweets are usually consumed frozen, to deliver the classic ‘ASMR’ crunch many TikTokers tune in for.
And they have proved massively popular on TikTok, amassing thousands of reactions – both positive and negative.
Would you try the candy craze?
