Five unmissable festive productions coming to Manchester this Christmas 

Festive shows are as essential to Christmas as mince pies and decorations.

There are an abundance of productions coming to Manchester in the run up to Christmas – from the theatre to pantomime – but these five stand out as unmissable… 

1.     The Muppets Christmas Carol 

Back by popular demand, Disney’s 1992 musical comedy The Muppets Christmas Carol comes to the Bridgewater Hall this December for one night only (Dec 20). The music score will be performed live to the film. Expect a spectacular performance – with songs by award-winning songwriter Paul Williams.  

2. Aljaz and Janette: Dancing in a Winter Wonderland 

Strictly stars Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjane return to the Bridgewater Hall to share their mesmerising choreography with Manchester. Promising iconic sequin costumes and festive hits, they will be joined by some of the UK’s most talented dancers to celebrate Christmas in style. 

3.     Home Alone in Concert

Who doesn’t love Home Alone? The comedy classic will be performed live by The Heritage Orchestra to the film – shown on a giant HD screen at the AO Arena.

Based on the story of an eight-year-old boy who is left behind when his family leaves for a festive holiday, Home Alone in Concert has been popular with audiences around the world since its debut in 2013. This event is for one night only – taking place December 3. 

4.     Gandey’s Snowstorm Northern Lights

Gandey’s Snowstorm Northern Lights is an ice-skating show like no other! Join the circus at the Trafford Centre – featuring 16 top ice skaters, international circus stars, ice bears and even a glimpse at Father Christmas. This sensational show is the perfect treat for the whole family. Catch it from November 24 to January 1. 

5.     The Railway Children

E Nesbit’s beloved The Railway Children arrives at Stockport’s Garrick theatre just in time for Christmas (December 9 to 16).

The captivating rite of passage story follows Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis as they move to rural Yorkshire with their mother, after their father is sent to prison. It encapsulates family, childhood, love and resilience – making this production a joyful festive treat.
