New film celebrates Manchester’s LGBTQ+ scene

A new film which shines a light on Manchester’s LGBTQ+ scene premieres in the city next month.

Secreta of a Wallaby Boy has been written and directed by Kieron Moore, and features former Dr Who star Colin Baker.

Moore, the founder of Manchester-based production company Weird Rainbow films, previously directed the 2018 title Spectrum, which appeared at numerous international film festivals.

Ahead of its nationwide digital release on October 28, a screening has been scheduled in Manchester at the Queer/Lit Social Refuge on October 2 from 7pm.

Moore said: “We have created a film that celebrates Manchester’s queer community.

“There’s a big niche for queer comedy waiting to be filled. Secrets of a Wallaby Boy offers positive and diverse LGBTQ+ representation and celebrates Manchester’s queer community, tackling contemporary issues with humour and heart.”

The film follows Tim Coaster who is unfit, struggling to pay rent, and desperately lacking in sex. Hoping to turn his life around he becomes a courier for the app Wallaby.

Guided by AI marsupial Bruce, Tim staggers through numerous awkward drop offs and hook-ups, and finds himself out of his depth when he uncovers a menacing conspiracy connecting Wallaby to a corrupt government minister.

Producers Weird Rainbow – which said it is dedicated to celebrating queer identities whilst also showcasing Manchester’s indie spirit – is working with Bohemia Media to distribute the film.
