Children will be able to make their very own Shaun the Sheep cartoon as part of the Manchester Day celebrations at Central Library.
Kiddies aged five and up are welcome to come alone and create a clay model of one of the most iconic characters from Wallace and Gromit and then take them home to make a mini movie, using Aardman’s Animate It! Software.
There will be three free expert-assisted sessions throughout the day to make sure every little one’s Shaun is as sheepy as he should be at the library on Sunday June 14 between 12 and 4pm.
Tots will also have the rare opportunity to hear about the animation process involved in the making of much-loved characters such as Shaun, Wallace and Gromit.
The event is part of this year’s Manchester Day for which the theme is Game On, highlighting the fantastic games in development across the region.
Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “This year’s Manchester Day is going to be incredible.
“And the range of ‘Game On’ activities hosted at Central Library will make it even more special – so much so that even Shaun the Sheep couldn’t resist getting involved!”
Elsewhere in the library, Manchester CoderDojo will be hosting a drop-in session for coding, with children aged 8-16 being invited to create their own virtual Manchester Day parade float.
The Henry Watson Music Library will allow visitors to make their own electronic music, while the first floor landing will display laser-cutting technology where people can create their own keyrings with the help of Manchester FabLab.
The Robogals will be bringing a touch of sci-fi to the Shakespeare Hall, where they will be building and programming robots.
The City Library and Media Lounge will feature Minecraft-themed activities, with the fourth floor playing host to an Instagram competition to see who can create the best image inspired by the library’s reference collections.
Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “Central Library has really got into the spirit of this year’s Manchester Day and will be offering a whole host of things to do, all fitting in perfectly with the big parade’s exciting theme.”
The free Shaun the Sheep making sessions are at Central Library at 12.10pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Sunday June 14.
