After a breakthrough year in 2024 that saw sold out stadiums and BRIT Award nominations, Caity Baser is back, but not as you know her.
Building a reputation for providing a riotous, irreverent soundtrack to the everyday life of Gen Z, Baser’s new releases mark a new direction for the 22 year-old artist.
“I’ve always been this loud, confident, ‘I don’t care’ person, which is exactly who I am most of the time, but everybody has those days where they feel sad,” says Baser.
“I haven’t been able to express those things for many years, mainly because of myself, but also because of who people know me as. I am excited to be in touch with that side of me.”
The new tracks offer a fresh sound focussing on self-reflection and growth, backed by live-instrumentation, something she’s carrying into her upcoming tour dates.
“The shows will be different for me in so many ways, it’s just me and a piano and I have never done that, apart from when I’m on my own in my room.
“I think that’s the reason I wanted to do it – I wanted to let people in and let them be a part of the process of me making music.”
Kicking off in her hometown of Southampton on 9th April and hitting ten cities across the UK and Europe, the intimate piano shows will offer fans a first listen of the new material.
Baser hopes stripping back her set and showing another side of herself will inspire others to be vulnerable too.
“We live in a time now where people are so afraid to feel things. I’ve always loudly felt anger and confidence, so I’m excited to feel other emotions and encourage others to do that as well.
“I want people to leave the piano shows feeling like they’ve just had a really long, warm hug. To go in, forget about things and just have fun.
“That’s always been my vibe, and when I go on tour again later in the year it will be chaos and fun, but it will be all the emotions – bad bitch energy, but also sad bitch energy!”
Accompanying her on the road will be one very important part of her team.
“I have a toy dinosaur called Reggie, and he has to be on stage at any of the shows. He’s been with me wherever I go for two years now, and every time he hasn’t been there the show has gone to shit! He’s definitely a lucky omen.”
Baser could have used a little Reggie luck when she tore her ACL, leaving her in a cast just weeks out from her piano shows.
“It’s going to be fine, it’s actually come at a perfect time as I’ll be sitting down most of the time anyway,” says Baser.
“My cast is off now and I’m in a leg brace which gives me a lot more movement and independence which is amazing. Appreciate your knees queen, you need them!”
Bringing her trademark honesty and candid storytelling to Factory 251 on April 18th, Baser says she always looks forward to being back in Manchester.
“Every time I’m in Manchester the energy is mental, it always shocks me! Every city has its own vibe, but Manchester is one of my favourite cities to play.”
Baser’s new single Running From Myself is available now.
