Liberal Democrat MP Lisa Smart has won the seat of Hazel Grove.
Since parliament was dissolved on May 30, Hazel Grove has been a turbulent area as it has been a three-way race between Labour, Lib Dems and Tories.
Hazel Grove constituency is in the borough of Stockport and was held by former Conservative MP William Wragg.
Wragg resigned his whip in April this year after getting caught up in the honey trap scandal where he sent explicit images over a casual dating app and revealed the numbers of his colleagues.
Smart told MM: “Thank you to everybody who voted for me. Whether you voted for me or not, I will work year in, year out, for our community.
“I am not afraid to make a pest of myself standing up for what this community neeeds.
“After a kip, I look forward to getting cracking.”
In 2022, Wragg called for Boris Johnson’s resignation over the partygate controversy and publicly confirmed that he had written a letter of no confidence.
She won with 17,328 votes, a lead of over 6,000 votes.
The second-placed candidate was Claire Vibert for Labour with 10,828 votes.
Turnout was 63.4%, down from 67.6% in the 2019 General Election.
