General Election 2024 results: Lib Dems take Cheadle

Lib Dems have won the seat of Cheadle, taking it from the Conservatives.

Cheadle is in the borough of Stockport and the seat was previously held by Conservative MP Mary Robinson.

Cheadle is a marginal seat between Lib Dems and Conservatives.

The new MP for the constituency is Tom Morrison who won with 23,681 votes, a majority of 12,235 votes.

Voter turn out in the constituency was 68.4%, compared to 74.9% in the 2019 general election.

It is a marginal seat and Mary Robinson has been the MP since the 2015 general election. 

Robinson held her seat in the 2017 and 2019 general elections with a reduced majority.

Prior to this, the seat was held for a decade by Lib Dem MP Mark Hunter.

In this weeks election, the second-placed candidate was the Conservatives’ Mary Robinson who received 11,446 votes.

  • Kelly Fowler, Labour: 7,909
  • Tanya Manzoor, Workers Party: 811
  • Tom Morrison, Liberal Democrat: 23,631

  • Stephen Speakman, Reform UK: 5,149
