WATCH: Manchester celebrates Chinese New Year

Manchester celebrated Chinese New Year last weekend with a range of events across the city.

The city welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a cat-themed treasure trail in Manchester Art Gallery, a tiger sculpture in St Ann’s Square, red lanterns across the city, and a dragon in Chinatown.

Between 1 and 6 February, the city celebrated the arrival of the Lunar New Year.

Despite Covid restrictions causing the annual fireworks display and dragon parade to be cancelled, many people flocked to attend the festivities on Sunday 6 February.

Visitors were met with stormy weather and even a hailstorm during the live performances in Chinatown – but the atmosphere was kept buoyant by a wide range of entertainment, including a funfair and food stalls.

Mancunian Matters went into the city centre to investigate what was going on.
