Life on our Planet in Concert – Netflix immersive concert experience comes to Manchester

The groundbreaking Netflix show Life on Our Planet will come to life on the big screen with the Manchestra Camerata orchestra playing live at Bridgewater Hall next month.

The extraordinary big screen experience with one of the UK’s finest orchestras comes from the Netflix docuseries of the same name.

The Netflix show was created by Silverback Films in association with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and narrated by Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman.

It tells the story of life’s extraordinary journey of adaptation and survival on Earth over billions of years.

The score of the show will accompany the pivotal moments of the series unfolding before the audience on the big screen, tracing life’s epic journey from the first single-celled life form, with a score that captures the evolution of nature to striking effect.

The score was composed and produced by Lorne Balfe. Balfe has a broad range of credits including Top Gun Maverick, Mission Impossible and The Crown, earning him many accolades including a Grammy as well as an Emmy and Bafta nomination.

He said: “It’s exciting to be able to bring the Score for Life on Our Planet to the live audience. It’s a journey through billions of years, a concept of Life and Breath and music that will connect you to every step of the way.”

Balfe mixed the sounds of ancient instruments, such as the bone flute (one of the earliest known instruments) and the karnyx (a haunting Celtic trumpet from the Iron Age) with state-of-the-art electronic production.

The result is a score which mirrors the evolution of life on Earth that we see on the screen, telling the story through a multitude of distinct motifs reflecting different creatures and the journey of evolution.

The show traces our lineage across this journey, helping us to understand our position as the only species in the story to understand what is happening to our world, and the only ones who can put it right.

The Life on our Planet in Concert tour runs from October 2nd – 30th and arrives in Manchester on Tuesday October 8th at Bridgewater Hall with Manchestra Camerata orchestra.
