Books officially opened: Manchester Literature Festival begins

The Manchester Literature Festival has officially started today offering interactive experiences for audiences to engage with writers from around the globe over the next two weeks.

The event, which has run since 2006, was built on the legacy of its  predecessor, the Manchester Poetry Festival.

The festival is designed to be a celebration of imagination, ideas, stories, and voices from around the world, and aims to give everyone the chance to discover a love of literature in all forms.

Reimagining is at the heart of this year’s festival with former EU MP Caroline Lucas challenging people to rethink a greener England while designer Thomas Heatherwick reimagines cities without soulless buildings.

Organisers said Manchester – which is a UNESCO city of literature – provides a great backdrop for the event featuring eclectic locations including Manchester Central Library and HOME Theatre.
