Dog wants to be a bookworm! Manchester staffie, who loves story time, looking for home

Dogs Trust Manchester are looking for a special forever home for an eight-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who loves nothing more than a good read.

The terrier named Murphy has been at the centre for four months, making his residency the longest in the Denton-based centre’s history, but staff are perplexed as to why he hasn’t found a home.

The team have done all they can to make Murphy’s stay as varied as possible but found he enjoys nothing more than a good story.

He saw one of the canine carers relaxing with a book on their break and he just sat and enjoyed the relaxing experience and companionship.

Lesley O’Donoghue, Deputy Manager at the Rehoming Centre, said: “We now read to him outside when the weather’s good and he particularly loves settling down with a treat whilst he enjoys a story.

“It seems to really remind him of being in a loving, cosy home. Luckily he’s not fussy about the subject matter, his smile just gets wider and wider whatever the story!”

The staff occasionally take him home for sleep-overs, he loves the hustle and bustle of home-life, as well as a warm and comfy place to settle in for story-time.

Murphy has had one previous owner and he would best suit an adult-only home, preferably one where he is the only dog.

Lesley added that: “He just misses everything about being in a home so we’re hoping an experienced owner who loves a good book, is out there for him.”

For more details about Murphy or any other dogs from you can call Dogs Trust Manchester on 0300 303 0292 or visit the centre at Parkway, Denton, M34 3SG.
