CCTV appeal: 95-year-old lady knocked to ground and robbed in Wythenshawe

GMP have released a CCTV image of a suspect they would like to question after a 95-year-old woman was knocked to the floor and robbed in Wythenshawe last week.

At around 12.30pm on Friday April 17, the victim was waiting at a bus stop near to the civic centre when she was approached by a woman in her 30s.

The woman asked for some change for the bus and when the bus arrived, they both boarded.

When the victim got off at Lownorth Road, the woman proceeded to follow her and asked for more money.

The elderly lady then took her purse out of her bag before the offender grabbed it, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

As the offender ran off, she was grabbed by a witness but struggled free, leaving the purse behind.

The offender is described as being white, in her 30s, had fair hair, of medium build and wore a light coloured jacket.

DO YOU RECOGNISE THIS WOMAN? GMP are appealing for information

Detective Sergeant Kelvin Windsor said: “This was a cowardly attack on a woman in her nineties who was simply trying to be helpful.”

“The offender has targeted her due to her vulnerability and followed her until choosing her moment to strike.  She has grabbed the purse with such force, the victim has fallen onto the floor. The attack has resulted in the elderly lady sustaining injuries to her arms”

“The attacker was initially stopped by a man nearby but she escaped and ran into a housing estate.  After the robbery, a number of people helped the woman and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.”

“We have managed to obtain CCTV images of a woman who was on the 104 bus and would ask anyone who recognises her to please call us.”
