Hunt is on for carjacker who threatened ‘shaken’ Rochdale van owner at knifepoint

The hunt is on to find a knifepoint carjacker who left the owner of a van ‘shaken’ after a frightening daylight robbery near Rochdale town centre.

The incident happened on Thursday March 26 at around 12.10pm, when a 38-year-old man had parked his white Ford Transit van near a property on Park Road in order to deliver a parcel.

As he walked back to his vehicle, a man armed with a knife threatened to hurt him if he didn’t hand over the keys.

The victim complied and the offender drove off in the stolen vehicle, leaving the man ‘shaken’ but unharmed.

The white Ford Transit van has the license plate BL64 JYZ.

The thief is described as an Asian man around 5ft 10in tall, wearing a black North Face jacket, dark jeans and black trainers, and carrying a silver knife with a six to seven inch blade.

A red Ford Focus was seen parked further up the road and drove off at the same time as the offender escaped in the victim’s van.

Constable Sean Goddard has said that the driver of the Ford Focus is more likely to be an ‘important witness’ than an accomplice.

“We would very much like for the driver of that car to contact us,” he said.

“Likewise if you see a white Ford Transit van with this registration plate, please contact police as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55 111.
