A police car has been left on its side after a dramatic pursuit of a carjacker through Heywood town centre this morning.
The vehicle, a BMW X5, was in pursuit of a thief who had jumped into a delivery vehicle at Nuttall Road in Ramsbottom while the driver was making a drop off.
Witnesses reported at around 10.30am seeing 10-15 marked and unmarked police cars racing through Heywood town centre in pursuit of a white Bedford Luton van.

Officers chased the vehicle along the motorway from Bury to Pilsworth Industrial Estate in Heywood and back on the motorway as the stolen van headed through the town centre.
The route the stolen vehicle took until the police car overturned can be seen below:
The theft, which was reported to police shortly after 10am, caused several accidents as the motorcade passed through the town, but there were no serious injuries.
The police chase continued after the BMW overturned on Bury Old Road but a man was later arrested.
