Daley Blind insists Manchester United’s squad are ignoring the form of their Premier League rivals as they look to solidify a top-four finish.
Ashley Young’s last-gasp goal sealed a 1-0 victory for Louis van Gaal’s outfit against Newcastle on Wednesday, with United maintaining their two-point advantage on fifth-placed Liverpool.
And Dutch international Blind, who has settled well at Old Trafford since arriving from Ajax last summer, says the squad must focus on keeping up their momentum.
“I heard about the wins for the others but it’s important to watch out for ourselves,” he said.
“We must keep winning our own games – we look at ourselves and it doesn’t matter what other teams think about us.”
United looked likely to have to settle for a point St James’ Park, but Young’s late strike ensured that they brought back the spoils from the North East – with David De Gea once again in spectacular form in the United goal.
But despite the tight game, Van Gaal was thrilled with his side’s determined performance, claiming that it was their best of the campaign.
“I think we have dominated for 90 minutes, especially in an away match and we deserved the victory,” he said.
“We didn’t reward ourselves in the first half, it was a narrow escape because our rivals have won also so it’s a rat race.
“We have created a lot of chances and could have scored much earlier. They also made two big chances and I think De Gea rescued us at that time.
“We have shown the quality that we have – and that we aim to win every game.”
