To try and snatch Wigan Athletic victory over Blackpool tomorrow, blue and white fans are planning to sing 90 songs in 90 minutes.
The Latics are currently nine points from safety as they prepare to face the Tangerines at Bloomfield Road on the pitch that has caused much controversy this season.
But the fans are ready to get behind Malky Mackay’s side bringing back classic chants about Henri Camara, Nathan Ellington and Andy Liddell as well as cycling to the ground for the charity Joseph’s Goal.
Emmerson Boyce, Wigan’s longest serving player, said: “It’s a brilliant idea. It’s fantastic when the fans get behind the team like that and when they sing a song about you it always gives that player an extra buzz.
“But Saturday’s not about any one individual, we need to stick together as a team and as a club and the fact the fans have come up with this idea, and that they are cycling to the ground with the staff for Joseph’s Goal just shows that we really are a special club.”
It’s a local game and will be a crucial battle for Championship survival so manager Mackay has admitted that his players will need to concentrate hard and build on the disappointment of their loss against Cardiff.
He said: “Blackpool are a team who have been involved in some incredible results recently. The 4-4 draw with Nottingham Forest shows they have a lot of battling qualities and that’s what I would expect with a Lee Clark side.
“There’s no doubt it’s going to be a tough game, the pitch is probably going to be similar if not worse than what ours was on Tuesday, so we know it’s going to be uncompromising and we’re going to need extra concentration.
“We’re both scrapping and battling for points down at the bottom, so I’ve no doubt it’s going to be a tough encounter.”
Wigan have won five matches this season and Blackpool have won four so the fans gesture of a compilation of chants could be the difference between the strugglers.
Mackay added: “It’s going to be a great atmosphere, both sets of supporters desperately want three points and we want to make sure it’s ours who head home the happiest.”
