Transfer deadline day news across Greater Manchester

Bleary-eyed post Super Bowl? Heater not working as Manchester continues to freeze this winter? Cheer yourself up with news of transfers around town on deadline day.

It was a slow start after such an eventful weekend of sport but things always heat up on transfer deadline day, if not in actual news at least in gossip as the rumour mill cranks up several notches.

So keep your eyes open as signings are announced throughout the evening (a reminder the deadline is 11pm) but from us here at MM it’s good night and sleep tight.

5:40pm: Bolton Wanderers have signed Bulgarian youngster Simeon Slavchev on loan from Sporting Lisbon until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has made only five appearances for the Portugese club this season, since his arrival from native side Litex Lovech last summer for a fee of €2.5million.

The youngster has made three appearances for the Bulgarian national team and was linked with a move to the Premier League in the past.

Slavchev was previously dubbed as Bulgaria’s answer to Frank Lampard, but it is yet to be seen whether he has the girlfriend to match.

4:50pm: Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl has joined Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old Belgian made only one appearance for the Red Devils this season, in their infamous 4-0 Capital Cup loss to League One side MK Dons.

The Owls will be hoping for more Stella performances from their man.

16:10: Adam El-Abd’s loan spell at Bury has been extended until May 24.

The Bristol City centre-back originally joined The Shakers at the end of November, where he has so far made 10 appearances.

Manager David Flitcroft said: “Adam’s loan is until the end of the season – it is a non-claw-back loan so we will have him for the rest of the campaign, which is great news because he has been fantastic.”

3:55: Some clubs know what it takes to tempt a player…

3:45: Oldham Athletic have cancelled Paul Rachubka’s contract despite the American making 26 appearances for the Latics this season and playing an instrumental role in their League One survival last season.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper, who had been with the club since September 2013, made 39 appearances keeping 13 clean sheets.

Rachubka told the club’s website: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time with the football club and I’d like to thank all the fans for their support.”

3:20: City striker Edin Dzeko will not be leaving the club before the end of the transfer window. Turkish side Fenerbahce launched a £12million swoop for the Bosnian striker, but it was rejected.

The 28-year-old has scored four goals in 22 appearances for the defending Premier League champions this season and doesn’t appear to be Edin anywhere.

3:10: United midfielder Tom Cleverley will remain on loan at Aston Villa for the remainder of the season. A number of Red Devils’ fans appear to be elated at the news.

2:55: City defender Micah Richards, who is currently on loan at Italian side Fiorentina, has been linked with a move to Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

If the move materialises, the 26-year-old will be reunited with former City manager Roberto Mancini.

Richards’ solitary appearance for City this season in their Community Shield loss to Arsenal could scupper the move though, due to Fifa’s three-club rule.

The wing-back has made 12 appearances this season and is likely to be allowed to leave the Etihad stadium on a permanent basis.

2:40: Wigan Athletic are interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin, but the Whites have insisted he is not for sale. The Jamaican international – who has scored twice in 22 appearances – is thought to be sought after, mon.

2:10: Wigan Athletic have signed Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo on loan until the end of the season.

The 17-year-old winger is yet to make a first team appearance for the Reds, but has been tipped for a big future after representing England at youth level.

He apparently can’t hide his delight at the task of aiding the Latics’ relegation dogfight in the Championship.

Wigan are in desperate need of a change in fortunes this season, the Latics currently sitting seven points from Championship safety with only troubled Blackpool beneath them.

1:50: A source has tipped Hyde FC to sign Germany’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from Bayern Munich, after he rocked up at Ewen Fields on deadline day.

It is unsure whether the Conference North side – who are currently languishing in bottom place and staring relegation in the face – will land their man.

1:30: Wigan Athletic are teasing fans by announcing they will reveal the details of a new signing in the next half hour.

1:20: Crystal Palace continue to scour Greater Manchester on deadline day, with Bolton Wanderers midfielder Chung-yong Lee the latest player on their target list.

The South Korean could be joining the Eagles for a fee of £1million following a five-year stay at the Macron Stadium, with Barry Bannan going the opposite way in a loan deal.

The 26-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Trotters this season, scoring three times.

1:10: Bury goalkeeper Shwan Jalal has put himself in the shop window, after leaving the club by mutual consent. The 31-year-old arrived from Championship side Bournemouth in the summer and made eight appearances for the Shakers in all competitions.

1:00pm: Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing Celtic’s 21-year-old midfielder Filip Twardzik.

The Czech Republic youth international has made only one appearance for the Bhoys this season and is interesting manager Neil Lennon, who previously led the Scottish club to three league titles between 2010-14.

12:40pm: Adnan Januzaj will not be joining Everton on loan from Manchester United, according to sources.

The 19-year-old midfielder was rumoured to be a target for the Toffees, after failing to hold down a first-team place this season.

The news appears to have divided opinion between fans.

12:30pm: United’s out-of-favour Brazilian midfielder Anderson will return to his homeland today, according to teammate Juan Mata.

The Spaniard wrote in his blog: “I want to wish good luck to my friend Anderson, who is back to football in his native Brazil. All the best, my friend!”

The 26-year-old is set to join Internacional on a free transfer, with his contract due to expire in the summer.

Anderson moved to United for £26million in 2007 from FC Porto, making 70 Premier League starts, but hasn’t featured in the first-team since August.

11:55am: Wilfried Zaha looks set to be leaving Manchester for good today, with fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace his likely destination.

The young United winger joined his former club on a season-long loan in August, but the Eagles now want to make the deal permanent after impressing on his return.

The 22-year-old moved to Old Trafford for £15million two years ago from Palace under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but has since failed to establish himself in the first-team under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

A fee of up to £8million is being mooted to land Zaha on a five-year deal.

Right. Now let’s eat some cake.
