A serious crash between a pedestrian and a truck has taken place on Portland Street in the middle of Manchester’s city centre rush hour.
The 18-year-old male pedestrian was knocked down by the vehicle while crossing the road outside the Portland Thistle Hotel at around 8.40am this morning.
Police confirmed at 9.34am that the victim was on his way to Salford Royal hospital, later adding that he is currently being treated for ‘life-threatening injuries’ for a significant head injury.
Traffic police officers investigating the collision had arrived at the scene as of 9.56am, but no arrests have currently been made.

Traffic was diverted from Newton Street down London Road, with closures between Aytoun Street to Portland Street.
Portland Street remained completely closed between the bus station and the Piccadilly Tavern pub on the corner of Newton Street for around four hours.
Pavements outside the Thistle Hotel and Number One Piccadilly building remained open.
All bus services around Piccadilly were running with severe delays due to the incident.
