After one of the most talked about transfers of the window was finally completed – despite Wilfried Bony being overseas – Manchester City have had a relatively quiet January.
The Premier League champions shelled out £30million on the Ivorian forward as transfer deadline day approaches but here is MM’s take on other movement in the market.
Slam dunks
The only deal City have managed to complete is that of Devante Cole, son of United legend Andy, who has moved on loan to MK Dons. It may not sound like much, but a loan move is usually the last stage of development for City’s youngsters, and the 19-year-old has many admirers in high places.
Call me maybes
The revolving door at Southampton looks set to continue as Manuel Pellegrini has asked to be ‘kept informed’ about the availability of injured England striker Jay Rodriguez, who has yet to appear this season after ruptured his ACL at the end of last season.
In the other direction, 22-year-old John Guidetti has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs during his current loan spell at Celtic, but he will stay in Scotland until at least the summer, at which point Southampton are said to be interested in his signature.
Transfer limbo
The James Milner saga continues, as City are reported to have opened fresh talks with the enigmatic midfielder, who is demanding assurances of first team football, but has shown a willingness to stay at the Etihad.
It is perhaps not the most exciting transfer of the window, but Aston Villa have been on the verge of signing Scott Sinclair for what seems like forever. The stumbling block? Manchester City’s £3million valuation of the player.
Micah Richards mad just seven starts at loan club Fiorentina this season, sparking rumours that he is eager for a return to England…but perhaps not back to the Etihad. His contract expires in June, and Chelsea are rumoured to be heading the pack.
Long shots
Raheem Sterling may be Liverpool’s main man, but he won’t commit until they show him the money. Contract talks with the Jamaican-born forward have stalled, and may force the Reds to cash in on their youngster, who as an England-qualified star, represents a serious opportunity for City.
In a Blue Moon
Radamel Falcao has hardly enjoyed his time in Manchester so far with just three goals in 13 appearances. However, should United not take up their buy option this summer, City are rumoured to be preparing a £44million bid for the Colombian striker. We’ll see what Financial Fair Play makes of that…
