Heaven knows Manchester’s miserable now: Morrissey snubs city from 2015 tour

Music icon Morrissey hasn’t included Manchester on his UK 2015 tour despite him not playing in his home city for nearly two and a half years.

The former Smiths frontman last played a gig in his hometown in July 2012, at a sold-out Phones4u arena.

He also unfavourably shunned Manchester on his 2014 tour, which included just one UK date at London’s O2 Arena.

The singer then added further fuel to the fire by listing the London date as his favourite gig of the year in an end-of-tour message on his blog, True to You, that read: “What I may risk calling our best tour ever… has now ended, and my written words of thanks to all who came along to watch and listen are strong enough to burn a hole through the North Pole.”

Some aggrieved fans have been left bemused as to why the 55-year-old has decided to avoid his roots on the six-date arena tour taking place in March.

Jodie Williams, from Manchester, said: “Morrissey announces a new tour and avoids Manchester like the plague.”

“Morrissey is playing Bournemouth but not Manchester…” said Sam Carson, also from the city.

Music fans also took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

The controversial singer released his tenth solo album World Peace Is None of Your Business in August last year, which reached number two in the UK album charts.

He is currently without a record deal after Capitol Music and Harvest Records ended their contracts following the record.

Morrissey later disclosed he had been suffering from ill health, having been hospitalised for a year and a half due to an ongoing series of cancer treatments.

But the First of the Gang to Die singer has now announced he is back on the road, which while being positive news, has left a portion of Mancunian fans dismayed.

It is yet to be seen whether he will surprise fans by adding a date in Manchester.
