Lee Rigby family friend prays killer will ‘rot in hell’ after losing conviction appeal

The family friend of murdered Middleton soldier Lee Rigby says the killer should ‘rot in hell’ after his attempts to challenge his life sentence were quashed earlier today.

Lorna Taylor, leader of the Fusilier’s memorial campaign, and mother of Rigby’s army pal, says she was delighted the court rejected an appeal by Michael Adebolajo, who will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The Islamic extremist and his accomplice, Michael Adebowale, ran down the 25-year-old soldier and hacked him to death in Woolwich on May 22 last year to ‘avenge the killing of Muslims by British armed forces’.

Ms Taylor told MM: “It’s fantastic news. It still doesn’t give Lee a memorial but the fact that it might give the family some comfort to know that [the assailants] will never be walking the streets of England again – that’s good enough for me.

“I think it’s disgusting that it even got into the court of appeal. In the eyes of the law it’s his right but I’m really happy that it’s been rejected.

“He got out of prison for a day and now he’s got to go back to rot in hell.”

Adebolajo made an appeal after hearing that Adebowale, his accomplice, was not given a life sentence because of his younger age, mental health problems, and ‘lesser role’.

Ms Taylor insisted however that further attention be given to the needs of Lee’s family after the appeal brought back more memories.

“Lyn (Lee’s mother) couldn’t attend today because she was in such a bad place,” she said.

“She is re-living Lee’s murder every single day, and obviously the appeal has brought it all back again like it was yesterday. The family are grieving in such a horrific manner.”

The Lee Rigby memorial campaign has started up an online petition that has received more than 3,000 signatures, in a bid to erect a plaque in his name.
