Bury manager David Flitcroft is hopeful that his side’s fine home form can increase attendances at the JD Stadium with Cambridge United their latest scalp.
Nicky Adams fired the hosts into the lead with a curling effort from 25 yards, before Danny Rose headed in at the far post to round off a commanding first half display.
Flitcroft was delighted with the first half display in particular and is hoping that his team’s fine home form will continue to drive their promotion push.
“We’re trying to build a team here for the fans, it was important to me to try and get more fans into the stadium,” he said.
“Once you’ve done that you want to build a team that’s winning – to win eight on the spin in any league is a good return.
“The first half was scintillating, it’s the best we’ve been this season – it was an excellent team performance.”
More than 3,700 fans packed into the JD Stadium last Saturday and this figure is just above the season average for a home gate.
The aim to increase attendances again demonstrates the ambition the Bury are showing with the side now up to fourth in League Two.
Young defender Nathan Cameron signed a contract extension with the Shakers last week and has praised the direction that the club is heading in.
“It’s been really exciting to sign the contract and to be a part of this for the coming season is exactly what I wanted,” he said.
“The chairman has assured me that he wants to keep me here and he wants to keep the core players here.
“He wants this team to get to the Championship and he’s put a lot of money into the club to do that – I don’t think Bury are a selling club anymore.”
Bury now have a break from league duty as they welcome Hemel Hempstead Town to the JD Stadium next weekend in the FA Cup.
