‘We are ready’: Rosler praises Wigan’s mental strength ahead of Brighton and Bolton

Wigan manager Uwe Rosler has praised the mental grit and determination of his team to come from behind once again against Fulham and he feels it will continue in the next couple of games.

The Latics drew 3-3 against the west London side who came into the game having only lost one in their last six Championship games.

Despite a shaky defensive display and a slight lack of midfield organisation, Rosler is pleased that Wigan stood strong while behind and hopes the form continues for their next two games.

The boss said: “It’s a big positive that we got a response like the one we did in the second half, tactically and mentally we were very good.

“In the second half we had an excellent 45 minutes, we were completely dominant, so we’re disappointed not to win the game.”

The Lancashire side face Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday and then take on local rivals Bolton Wanderers on Friday, two teams stuck in and around the relegation zone.

Despite the struggles of their opposition both sides will be hungry for the points and Rosler will be wary of his team’s defence after conceding three goals.

“Our back four dropped too much and it made it very difficult to control the game,” said Rosler.

“Defensively we gave players too much respect, but over the last few weeks we’ve been very tight at the back, so I expect that to be the case again very soon.”

The German manager has admitted that both matches will be tough and Wigan need to retain the attitude they have had recently to clinch six points that will allow them to climb up the ever-changing Championship table.

“We’ve got two tough games coming up in a short space of time, so the squad comes into play and players who have not played or not started have to make big impressions.

“They are important games for us now, it’s a long trip to Brighton, but as a squad and with our improvement mentally in the last few weeks, I think we are ready.”
