Bury captain Jimmy McNulty branded his side’s 5-0 defeat away at Shrewsbury Town as embarrassing and has said the defeat will stay with him all week.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro’s first professional hat-trick inspired Town, with Connor Goldson and substitute Jordan Clark also finding the back of the net.
McNulty was clearly disappointed with the performance and felt his side had let down the supporters that had braved the weather to travel.
“I just feel we’ve let everyone associated with the club down and I’m going to be feeling it for the rest of the week – it was embarrassing,” he said.
“No matter what we do on Saturday, if we go there and get a win which we need to now I’ll still be hurting from this one.
“We’ll go back to the training ground and start kicking each other, having a few arguments – that’s how it normally works after bad defeats,” he added.
The defeat drops the Shakers out of the automatic promotion places but they remain two points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers, who also suffered defeat on a night of challenging conditions.

Perhaps more worrying for manager David Flitcroft and his side is that the devastating result is their third consecutive away defeat.
McNulty has admitted that his side’s home form is currently getting them out of trouble and wanted to apologise on behalf of the players.
“I feel we’ve let the manager down and the staff, they’re second to none with their work rate,” said McNulty.
“We are getting everything at this club that a lot of League Two players don’t get, so there are no excuses and we promise to give more of a return in the coming games,” he added.
Bury have to pick themselves up ahead of another away trip to Southend United on Saturday to face a side sitting in the top half of the table.
