Manchester’s Royal Eye Hospital is inviting the public to take part in their 200th birthday celebrations which will be held at the hospital on October 21.
In 1814 the hospital opened its doors to offer basic healthcare services to the public.
On Tuesday, exactly two centuries later, they will commemorate the anniversary with an open day, which everyone is invited to attend.
Head of the bicentenary organising committee and Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon Mr Nicholas Jones shared his excitement with MM.
He said: “This is a very important year for Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, and I am thrilled to be part of the team organising the Bicentenary of one of the world’s most celebrated eye hospitals.”
The Royal Eye Hospital will be holding a variety of activities for the public to enjoy.
Lucy Burscough, will be showcasing her ‘Look200’ project which contains paintings that celebrate 200 years of research into vision undertaken in Manchester.
There will also be videos showing procedures relating to ocular prosthetics and an interactive demonstration of eye conditions using simulation spectacles for the public to partake in.
Willing participants can even take part in a visual acuity test.
The open day festivities will begin promptly at 10am and finish at 3pm.
